And then when they were cleaning out the house after him, my stepdad saved it for me because nobody else wanted it.
APPRAISER: It's what we would call an Aesthetic Movement table, and it was made about the 1880s.
This sort of Aesthetic Movement took cues from nature, and they created these designs.
You sort of see the basket weaving on the top here.
Very reminiscent of Japanese baskets and things like that, so it's got this sort of naturalistic, Asian-inspired influence.
So this is a factory-made piece of furniture.
It's really in spectacular condition.
So if this were to come to auction today, I could easily see an auction estimate of $1,500 to $2,500 on it.
GUEST: Wow.
(laughs) A lot more than I thought it would be.
APPRAISER: So does that mean you're buying dinner today or what's the scoop?
