When I started sharing the film with sighted people, other sighted people, the assumption has been that it simulates blindness.

But actually, that was never the intention.

The intention with the visual approach for Unseen is to reframe what it's like to watch a film.

The blurriness of the film is something that we put in there from the beginning, in production.

Its not an after effect, it's a production effect.

Often we think about watching a film as a visual experience, right?

But there are so many ways to experience a film.

Through Pedro, I realized that you can watch a film by listening, especially with the experience of audio descriptions.

So the idea with the blurred visuals of the film, the out of focus, is that how do we invite sighted people to watch a film not so much by using their visual sense, but rather inviting them to listen to a film and by listening watch a film in that way?

One of the key benefits I think for me working with Pedro on this project is that accessibility was not just a, you know, checkbox we had to tick off at the end of the production process, but rather it was something that we deliberately included in the aesthetic of the film since the beginning.
