The Scioto Superfest was a really wacky event that happened here in downtown.
Thirty one crafts went down a quarter- mile course that started at the Conway Bridge and ended at the Riverfront Amphitheater here in Downtown Columbus.
David Lucas, who was the city of Columbus's first official photographer, took a lot of photos of this event that we have here at the Columbus Metropolitan Library in our collection.
You can see a ton of people came out to spectate this event from these photos here.
And that's exactly what the event coordinators wanted.
Mayor Dana Reinhart's office and the Chamber of Commerce organized the event to really bring interest back to downtown Columbus and celebrate the river.
The event happened annually until about 1994.
