(cheerful music) - It's tulip time.
Thanksgiving Point's annual Tulip Festival is here, with more than a million vivid blooms.
We're talking about one of the biggest and most popular spring flower festivals in the United States.
Tessa Devey joins us now with a look at what is new this year.
Also some of the secrets of the festival.
Welcome.
- Nice.
Thanks for having me.
- And this is something that you guys plan for, what, year-round?
- Yeah, so we have a gardens team that is full-time staff, works year-round designing those beds, replanting, planting.
Starting in October, we plant those beds.
- [Liz] And it sounds like it's almost all-hands-on-deck, 'cause you were helping out a little bit today, right?
- (laughs) Yes.
Yeah.
So we involve all of our teams on campus to really make this festival come together.
So exhibit design teams, our design teams, our signature events teams, and our gardens teams, of course, really come together to make this happen.
- And it's grown so much throughout the years.
I went several years ago, and what amazes me is that you guys find new ways to surprise people and showcase the beauty of these florals.
- Yeah, so we really pride ourselves on the fact that you won't see the same festival twice.
Replanting beds, designing new colors, new topiaries, water features, photo ops, and, of course, our concessions change year-to-year as well.
- And I love that you also offer things like yoga among the flowers as well, and different things like watercolor.
It's something pretty much for everyone, right?
- Yeah, there's certainly something for everyone to find here at Thanksgiving Point at our Tulip Festival.
And guests can feel great that we are a nonprofit, so when they're contributing to those classes, buying their tickets, it does go towards supporting Utah's children as well.
- And I'm always nosy.
I'm like, "What happens to the tulips after the festival?"
And you say people can even participate in that too.
- Yeah, so we have our Tulip Bulb Sale.
At the end of the Tulip Festival, guests can take home a piece of the Tulip Festival with them as well as replanting those beds and making a beautiful experience again and again.
- Well, I love that, and I'm excited to see what you guys have in store for us this year.
If you would like to check out the Tulip Festival, the information is on your screen.
It is at Thanksgiving Point, April 6th through May 16th from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
I hear if you go during the weekdays, you might have a better chance of finding great parking, but you can find parking on the weekends as well.
For more information and to buy tickets, the website is on your screen.
And thank you so much for watching "Contact."
I'm Liz Adeola.
(cheerful music) Philanthropy, Arts, culture.
It's what brings us together.
